Aid workers and photographers are revisiting a complicated
debate that first emerged during 1980s famines in Africa. Are
photos of naked, starving people accurate depictions of
humanitarian crises, or are they a form of "development
pornography"? Some aid groups are seeking stricter standards for
photos of victims used by NGOs in their fundraising campaigns,
while others say the stark images are needed to spur action.
