Hello

stay away from the central business district if you can, there are riots here, and the tear gas tastes really bad, most of the trouble is here at harambee avenue, the riot police have just moved towards the ministry of planning but they are walking back now, theres a military truck spraying people with water, EVERYONE is running back towards moi avenue, stones are being thrown by some demonstrators, they are not sparing civilian vehicles either, theres someone breaking windows

there goes the phone booth, all booths!! the roads blocked,

some of the riot police have AKs, the others have shields and batons which they are bashing together to scare people, it sounds abit like gun shots

its been going on for about 15 minutes and its not really getting better

I think the most of the media people have run off now, I don’t see any

 stay safe

 Connie

Dear All,

I believe it is in order for ICT stakeholders in Kenya to send
congratulations
to Dr. Shem Ochoudho on his appointment to the Rwanda's ICT authority.

Former pipeline boss named Rwanda’s ICT boss
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Alari Alare

The Rwandan government has appointed former Kenya Pipeline Company Limited
Managing Director Shem Ochuodho to head the country’s information and
communication authority.

Ochuodho is the new chief executive officer of the Rwanda Information
Technology Authority (RITA) for a period of two years.

Ochuodho, a former chairman of the Computer Society of Kenya, will now head
the
national body that is designed to develop Rwanda’s information and
communications facilities.

He holds a Philosopher’s Degree (PhD) in Engineering (software) from the
University of York, England and a Masters in Electronic Engineering from
the
University of Nairobi.

RITA runs as an independent body with linkages to IT divisions in
government
ministries as well as other ICT-related organisations in public and private

sectors.

The authority seeks to modernise Rwanda’s economy using information and
communication technology as an engine for accelerated growth.

It has the responsibility of developing national ICT standards and
guidelines.
